27/Jul/2019

The 2019 JG Memorial Race takes place this Saturday 27th July. This race was postponed due to a bereavement earlier this month. The JG is Donegal’s oldest cycle race and has run over a variety of courses since it’s first edition. The present course has been used for 10 years or more and the lumpy nature is guaranteed to split the bunch in all races. Retired professional Philip Deignan was a previous winner in 1999 who beat present Race Director Dinny Doherty into 2nd place that day. The first race starts at 12pm and the course will do a loop of Mulroy Bay. It starts at Logues of Cranford, heading for Milford, Kerrykeel, over the Harry Blaney Bridge and back towards Cranford. Sign on open from 10am at Logues and closes at 11.30am. Entry on the day is €20.
There are three races this year
1......A1, A2 and A3 Race will go off at 12pm with short handicap for A3 and A2 riders. 82kms.
2......A4 Race will go at 12.10pm.41kms.
3......Masters and Ladies Race will go at 12.20pm. 41kms.
Cycling Ireland points will be awarded for Race 1 and Race 2.
Masters Race is part of Ulster Masters League and any rider over 50 with LC licence or better can enter. Four Masters CC limited competition members are also eligible to race.
Looking forward to a good days racing and fine hospitality from the Cranford locality.
