Poison Glen Tour 2018

Last Sunday saw the running of the Poison Glen Tour. There was a good turnout despite the middling weather forecast, with a good representation of cyclists from our neighbouring clubs. The bunch set off at 10.15am heading for Templedouglas, pace being controlled by Lead Car driver Kevin McClintock. It was quite breezy for the first part of the circuit but luckily the rain stayed away. After Glenveigh the group were pedalling into a headwind and everyone got up the Muckish Gap climb at their own pace. After a quick stop in Falcarragh for regrouping, the bunch headed towards Dunlewy for the first foodstop of the day. A wonderful spread of food awaited the riders in Dunlewy Community Centre, facilitated by An Forbairt Dun Luiche, It would not have been easy to get on the bike again after that feed. On the return leg everyone cycled at their own speed. The Poison Glen climb soon separated the cyclists into small groups as they headed through Glenveigh, Garten and Churchill towards Letterkenny. There were a couple of heavy showers that tested the resolve of the returning cyclists. The majority of the cyclists completed the 106km circuit and were happy to arrive at Aura Leisure Centre where more food and warm drinks awaited them.

Four Masters CC would like to thank all the cyclists that braved the tough weather conditions on the cycle and the local sporting clubs from near and far that supported the event, An Forbairt Dun Luiche and Roarty’s for facilitating the Dunlewy food stop, Sean Maguire Fruits, Raphoe for donating the bananas, Aura Leisure Centre for provision of the premises for sign on, showers and food stop at finish, all the club members that brought sandwiches and goodies for the finish, the Gardai for their assistance in Kilmacrennan, Kevin who drove the lead vehicle and marked out the course, Seamus who organised the food stop in Dunlewy and along with Mark, Kevin, Gareth, Martin and Darren, looked after the major junctions, Pat, who provided first aid cover, Both Kevins for doing sign on, Michael and Paddy who drove the support sweeper vehicles, Wesley for moto marshaling and course assessment, Ann Marie, Fiona, Majella and Mickey who organised the food at the finish. Everyone contributed to the success and safety of this year’s Poison Glen Tour and hope to see you all again in 2019.
